Birthday Suits began as a playful birthday invitation Songa Kim created for a friend in 2017. The card cheekily read, “Required Attire – Birthday Suits*,” followed by the tiny fine print: “*underneath your clothes.” The humorous concept struck a chord, and what started as a one-off joke quickly grew into a joyful ongoing series. Since that first design, Songa has continued adding more characters—people, pets, and plenty of personality—to the Birthday Suits party, with no plans to stop any time soon. Each new illustration brings fresh charm and celebrates the delight of showing up fully as yourself.
Behind the artwork is Songa Kim, a Korean American artist who boldly shifted from a 20+ year accounting career to pursue her creative dreams full time in 2019. Her work draws deeply from her own life and from the stories of those around her, resulting in pieces that feel personal, heartfelt, and wonderfully relatable.
